Music Video Analysis

Artist : Fort Minor
Song : Believe Me

This song is performance

The video for ‘Believe Me’ is recorded underground and is just the band singing the song with plenty of green and blue special effects. This video is like this because the band are not particularly well known so there is no need for them to make an expensive video. They have also done it because they don’t want gimmicks, they just want people to listen to the song as it is rather than be distracted by a storyline and not pay attention to the song. The front man, Mike Shinoda, is the main man in the video because he is the most well known and therefore one of the bands main selling points – This is mainly because of his other band ‘Linkin Park’ is a very successful Rock group. One of the lines in the chorus is ‘Your on your own now believe me’ – this is the last line in the song and in the video, once they have said that the band then walk away. This is the main link between the video and the song lyrics, the rest is them just singing. However, when there is no lyrics for roughly 10 seconds the group are midway in the air and special effects appear at each beat, this is the other most noticeable link between the video and song.

Artist : Silverstein
Song : Still Dreaming

This song is narrative/performance

The music video starts before the song does, the song partially plays when the phone rings however it then cuts to members of the bands so stops playing. The song starts properly when the phone is answered, it cuts to the band who begin their performance of the song. The narrative is about a couple who are a long way away from each other, and communicate by phone. The narrative has subtitles so you can easily tell what is going on in the story line. The male, who is the front man of the band, loses his phone so cannot keep in touch with his girlfriend. The rest of the narrative is about the girl trying to get the phone back, so she can give it to her boyfriend when she see's him so they can continue to keep in touch. This is what happens at the end of the video, after having to go and get it from a pawn shop, the video ends with her putting it back in her boyfriends pocket. The narrative is like it is because it goes well with the story line of the song. Lines such as 'this is how we stay so connected over space and time' support this idea.

Artist : The Prodigy
Song : Warriors Dance

This song is concept/narrative

The music video to the song ‘Warriors Dance’ by ‘The Prodigy’ was directed by Corin Hardy. The main focus was three cigarette packets which turn into a human like shape and have human characteristics. The cigarette packets have various logos of The Prodigy and represent the three members of the band. The cigarette packets enter a pub after being swept into the road, the music is linked with the video at times like when the cigarette packet stomps its foot and breaks glass, the music has a beat at this time making it stand out. The cigarette packets and others from the pub have a ‘rave’ on the table and start a fire, this is linked in with the band as they were known as the firestarters after their successful song entitled ‘firestarter’.
