CD Cover Analysis

Artist : Biffy Clyro
Album : Puzzle

Biffy Clyro is a rock band and they aren't on their album cover, their cover is to represent their album name 'Puzzle' whilst there is a person made up of a puzzle sitting on a wooden stool, with one puzzle piece on the floor. The setting is an empty room with some people standing in the background in an open door. The puzzle on the floor makes you think something is not complete; it is close to completion because there is just one piece on the floor. It may be something to do with a member of the group because it is a piece of the person on the cover missing rather than the stool or anything else which may appear on a cover. All of the album cover appears wooden, with the wooden stool, wooden floor and plain background. The album name and band name isn’t in big writing because, as they aren’t a big band the group cannot use that as their main selling point... they hope that the unique album cover will grab the users attention rather than the band name or album name.

Artist : Miley Cyrus
Album : BreakOut

Miley Cyrus is a pop artist, she is the main focus of the album cover as there is just a plain pink background, this is because people would buy her album because of who she is rather than because of her music. Her microphone represents wealth which is fairly common in pop music and the pink background shows that the target audience is female.

Artist : Arctic Monkeys
Album : Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not

This album cover was the arctic monkey’s first album cover. None of the band are on the cover because they do not like people buying their music because of them as a brand, they would rather stay out of the limelight and just be known as a group rather than individuals. The album was just the band’s name which is why the albums only text says arctic monkeys, the album is black and white because… the man on the album cover is Chris McClure, a friend of theirs who is the front man of another band, this is again so people don’t look at them as individuals and the fact they don’t want to be recognized wherever they go, they want normal lives. The man on the cover is smoking a cigarette because this is seen as a working class habit, and the band are from a working class location, this is showing they remember their roots & where they came from. The genre is not obvious from the album cover but it makes you think it is somewhat dark.
